Got an SMS that morning.
The “Packstation” told me that there’s a Package waiting for me
( DHL Packstation is some kind of an automated Package terminal where you can drop and get Packages.)
Content of the Package: Alfine Hubs and some spare parts for the Magura brake – unfortunately not the brakes itself. They will hopefully arrive next week.

Ok, but having the hubs means it’s time for wheelbuilding.
Rims are 26 inch, 36mm width with 36 holes – tough enough, I think. Spokes are DT Swiss super comp – cold forged, triple butted. Nipples are red anodized alumnium nipples, DT Swiss, too. I’m not sure if they are compareable by terms of stability to brass nipples., if they fail, I’ve got black brass nipples for replacement. Due to the fact that this bike gets strong disc brakes, I decided to spoke the rims in reverse direction compared to the usual pattern, meaning the trailing spokes get stressed not while accelerating but braking. I’m quite sure the forces are higher here.
Unfortunately this has a little disadvantage: the Rim is designed for the normal scheme, so I can’t use the bigger clearance left of the leader spoke for the valve. Not a big deal, but should be mentioned.

Ok, here some pictures made while building the wheels. Nothing special……

Spokes were a bit long, better should have used another spoke calculator. 2mm less would have been perfect. But everything should be inside the limits.
So here’s the result:

I prefer to do the spoke stress releaving by simply cycling some miles, so final adjustments can be done later on.
Of course, I did a try-on

Alfine Crankset is mounted, too. Not the prettiest one, but cheap
. Pedals are Shimano PD-A530’s. Like the PD-M324 they are dual-use types ( SPD and normal Shoes) , but lighter and better ground clearance. Unfortunately only available in silver ;-( .
What’s still missing are the tires, the chains and some fenders. Hopefully they will arrive next week…
