BD: Test ride

Ok, now its time for a first test ride. Todays lesson:

Ride from Erlangen,Germany to Thuisbrunn (thats in the Franconian Switzerland), buy two crates of beer from a small brewery ( that only sells the beer at the brewery ) and ride back home. Don’t take the direct way home, ride to Nuremberg, Germany first.

Lesson completed ;-)

Weight of the load was about 30 kilos, and handling capabilities were still fine. The franconian swiss is a low mountain range so altitude difference of the tour was about 1000 meters. What came into my mind was if the Alfine with a 20 teeth sprocket would have been better than the 18 teeth sprocket that is mounted right now. Climbing up the mountains is ok but could be better. Additionally the high gears are much to fast at the moment. Doing 100rpm at the cranks result in a speed over 40km/h, that is more than needed. Possibly I will invest the 5€ in a 20 teeth sprocket.

BTW.: Cheers ;-)

  1. I have read a few posts on our blog about your Big Dummy configuration.

We have tried using an Alfine (US release – non red band) hub on a big dummy and the results were not satisfactory.

Are you using the red band version/heavier duty version?

Have you felt the internals of the hub kind of click/skip when you have a load or when you are cranking/pedaling hard?

  2. The Hub starts to get the mentioned problems now, sadly…
