BD: Test ride

Ok, now its time for a first test ride. Todays lesson:

Ride from Erlangen,Germany to Thuisbrunn (thats in the Franconian Switzerland), buy two crates of beer from a small brewery ( that only sells the beer at the brewery ) and ride back home. Don’t take the direct way home, ride to Nuremberg, Germany first.

Lesson completed ;-)

Weight of the load was about 30 kilos, and handling capabilities were still fine. The franconian swiss is a low mountain range so altitude difference of the tour was about 1000 meters. What came into my mind was if the Alfine with a 20 teeth sprocket would have been better than the 18 teeth sprocket that is mounted right now. Climbing up the mountains is ok but could be better. Additionally the high gears are much to fast at the moment. Doing 100rpm at the cranks result in a speed over 40km/h, that is more than needed. Possibly I will invest the 5€ in a 20 teeth sprocket.

BTW.: Cheers ;-)

BD: Completed.

Hi,

Brakes arrived this week! So now everything is complete now. Setup of the Gustav M Brakes is very tricky, until now I haven’t managed it to get them working without grinding. It seems that the IS2000-mount is not 100% in place. These mounts were milled by the bike-shop, so something might have gone wrong there. I will see…

At least the grinding noise is quit enough to ride the bike. Indeed, braking force of the Gustav M brakes is enourmous. Did I say enormous? I meant brutal! While testing I did some unintended stoppies, with only two fingers at the brake lever.

Here some pictures of the final setup:

Please note mother’s selfmade noodle sauce on the snapdeck ;-)

Looking into my cellar another idea came to my mind. I’ve still got a bicycle rack from my sold car.

Mounted this on one of the wideloaders ( done in 60 seconds…)… result:

Weigth including the 2008 Specialized Langster New York approx. 30 kilos…

BD: Just some finetuning

Did some finetuning today ( fixing fender mounts, mounting the cables for the lights…)

Didn’t heard anything about the missing brakes. I think i will buy a normal centerlock-to-is2000 adapter today ( i’ve got two of them especially for magura) and fit an Oro K18 to the front wheel ( one brake is enough for now ). I want to make some test rides….

I moved the Airzound to the Seatpost. Quite uncommon position for a horn, but it definitely took too much space at the handlebar. Furthermore, it is now possible to hide the pressure tank behind the xtracycle bags.

Delivery date of the Brakes was again delayed for a week ;-(

But so I can take the time for some finetuning… weather forecast says that there is plenty of time to do things at home ;-)

BD: Only minor progress so far…

Damn. Still waiting for deliveries from Internetshopistan.

At least I made a preliminiary installation of the fenders that arrived at the beginning of the week. Cause the tires are still missing, nothing that can be finalized.

As you can see,I installed a B&M Lumotec IQ Fly Headlight. Until the SON Edelux or the IQ Cyo gets (back) available this one has to do the job.

Ah yes…and today the “AirZound III” arrived. A bike horn you can blast motorists away with. Not to be used with pedestrians, the chance that the victim gets a heart attack is too high ;-) So aside the Horn a Bell will be installed, too.
