Big Dummy arrived!
Hi,
since the Blog is now linked to some english-speaking pages, I decided to continue the Blog in english, too. At least the part concerning the Big Dummy.
Ok, as said, the Frame arrived. The People in the Bike Shop were really curious about the Frame. Should be the first Big Dummy in Town
Back home, I first had to play around with the frame a bit. Took the wheelset from my Cube Stereo Bike and mounted it on the Surly Frame. I had to test if the bike gets around the corners in my cellar, but no problems. In fact it is just about 40 centimeters longer than a standard 26” Bike.
As you can see, the Bikeshop already did some work on the frame ( cleaned the IS2000-mounts and the bottom bracket contact surfaces or watchamacallit).
Maniac Insignia FR Headset is mounted, too.
Ok, removed all the stuff and did some cavity sealing on the frame. Due to the weather conditions here, this is a must for a steel frame.
Luckily this part was much easier than thought. I bought a wax based aerosol-spay a couple of days ago that had a hose with a duster attached.
Yes, I did *not* remove the Ball Bearings. No, nothing silly happened, since they were completely covered with grease ( too much, i will remove that later on)
Put the hose into the tubes, pressed the button and moved the hose around. That’s it. Put the frame upside down and repeated it. After all, I turned the frame into all possible directions so that the surplus wax was able to drain out of the frame. Cleaned the bottom bracket threads and the bearing seats of the threadset. Ok … now the wax has to dry for a while. All in all less mess than expected
Additional effect: The Wax Coat inside the seat tube might protect the seat post a bit from scratches.
Hopefully my Shimano Alfine Hubs will arrive the next days so that I am able to begin building the wheels. Can’t wait to get my Dummy on the street
